The legendary crooner Frank Sinatra was perhaps the first example of a modern celebrity rags to riches story. His voice would not have been described as the best ever, but it was adequate for the purposes, and he was able to sell records at a rate that made him a hot commodity in the early 20th century.
He was born on December 12 1915 to Italian immigrant parents in New Jersey. Interested in song from a young age, he began his career with the swing bandleaders Harry James and Tommy Dorsey. He later went out on his own and released an album “the voice of Frank Sinatra” in 1946, aged just 31.
This album was quite successful, and helped propel his film career, which was launched into the stratosphere with the film from here to eternity.
Later in his life, Frank Sinatra became a staple of the Las Vegas night life.
